One cat in every row, column and color. Cats never touch, not even diagonally.

What is Meowdoku?

Meowdoku is a free cat sudoku-style logic puzzle that you can play online, right in your browser. The board is a square grid cut into colored regions, and every region needs exactly one cat. Like sudoku, there is no luck involved: every level has a single solution, and you can always find it with logic alone.

If you came looking for Meowdoku online (or "Newdoku", as some people call it), you can start right away. There is nothing to download and no account to create. New to the genre? See what cat sudoku is, or the Newdoku page.

How to play Meowdoku

The rules fit in four lines. Put one cat in every row. Put one cat in every column. Put one cat in every color region. And no two cats may touch, not even diagonally. Tap a cell once to mark it with a × (no cat here) and tap again to place a cat. For the controls, keyboard shortcuts and more examples, read the full Meowdoku rules and how to play guide.

Easy, Hard and Expert levels

Meowdoku has 300 levels in three difficulties, 100 levels each, plus a brand-new puzzle every day. Within each difficulty the levels run from gentle to tough, so level 1 is the friendliest and level 100 is the one to brag about.

Daily puzzle and global leaderboard

Every day there is one new daily Meowdoku puzzle, the same board for everybody in the world. The clock starts the moment you press the start button, and the fastest solvers climb the leaderboard under an automatically assigned cat name, so there is no sign-up. Meowdoku tips and tricks

  1. Start with the smallest region. A region with one or two cells has almost no options, which makes it the best place to begin.
  2. Cross out what every cat rules out. A cat blocks its row, its column, its color region and all eight neighbors. Marking those cells with × keeps the board easy to read.
  3. Look for a region stuck in one line. If all the open cells of a region sit in the same row, that row's cat must belong to the region, so every other cell in that row can be crossed out. Columns work the same way.
  4. Count regions against lines. If two regions live entirely inside the same two rows, those rows are used up, and every other cell in them is empty. This works for three regions and three rows, and so on.
  5. Test a cell in your head. If a cat in a cell would leave some row, column or color with nowhere to go, that cell must be empty. This is the main trick on Hard and Expert boards.

Meowdoku FAQ

How do you play Meowdoku?

Place one cat in every row, every column and every color region of the board, and make sure no two cats touch, even diagonally. Tap a cell to cycle between empty, × and cat. When every cat is placed with no clashes, the level is solved.

How many Meowdoku levels are there?

There are 300 levels: 100 Easy (7×7), 100 Hard (8×8) and 100 Expert (9×9). On top of that there is a new daily puzzle every day.

Are there ads in Meowdoku?

No. Meowdoku.page has no ads at all, so nothing gets in the way of the puzzle.

Is Meowdoku free to play?

Yes. It is completely free and needs no account or download. Your progress is saved in your browser.

How do hints work in Meowdoku?

Press the Hint button and a cat explains the next logical step, such as the only spot left in a row or a cell that has to stay empty. Hints are free, and your result simply records how many you used.

Can I play Meowdoku on my phone or on a PC?

Yes, both. The game is designed for touch screens, and it also works on a computer with a mouse or the keyboard. Open meowdoku.page in any modern browser.

What is the difference between Meowdoku and sudoku?

Both are pure logic puzzles with exactly one solution. In sudoku you fill every cell with a digit, while in Meowdoku you place just one cat in each row, column and color region, and cats are not allowed to touch. The colored regions and the no-touching rule give the puzzle its own feel.

When does the daily Meowdoku puzzle update?

The daily puzzle changes every day at 00:00 UTC. Everybody gets the same board, so you can compare your time on the leaderboard.
